Mike Johnson, reality TV star?
Mark your calendars now.
Mike Johnson, the fine-dining-chef-turned-barbecue-maven behind St. Louis' fastest-growing concept, Sugarfire Smoke House, is Food Network-bound.
The St. Louis chef will be competing on Beat Bobby Flay!
in an episode that airs at 9 p.m. CST on November 10. In the episode, titled "Country Boys in the Big City," Johnson will square off against Justin Gaines, who is known for his "Caribbean comfort food," to see who gets the chance to take on the eponymous Flay. If he wins in the first pairing, well, then it's really showtime!
Each two-round episode airs for 30 minutes and involves special guests choosing which of two competitors will be more likely to beat Flay, as well as the special ingredient they'll use to do it. In Johnson's case, the special guests will be Chopped
host Ted Allen and chef Anne Burrell.
Johnson's Sugarfire concept
, which is consistently rated among the city's best, has now grown to six locations, with the Olivette flagship being joined by restaurants in O'Fallon, Valley Park, St. Charles, downtown and Washington, Missouri.
