The hot salami at Gioia's
If you're craving hot salami, you won't need to go to the Hill for that —- one of the neighborhood's top sandwich shops is opening an outpost in downtown St. Louis.
Gioia's Deli will open its second location at 903 Pine, which previously held Sauce on the Side. When that fast-casual hotspot opted to move a few hundred feet away to better handle its hordes of customers, Gioia's pounced on the space. It plans to open April 1.
According to a press release from Gioia's, the shop is 2,000 square feet and can accommodate 40 customers, with its focal point as a walk-up deli counter. "High volume," owners Alex and Amanda Donley report, "is what we do best."
The downtown menu will be similar to the flagship location, right down to the “Word of the Week,” which is good for $1 off your sandwich, and the NotSoSecret Menu, which is available on our website. We also plan to add a few menu items, which will be unique to the downtown location. At present, the downtown location is slated to be open five days per week, Monday through Friday, from 11am to 4pm. The downtown location will offer dine-in, catering and pickups.
The 98-year-old Italian deli has a host of fans across the region and was recently one of our picks for the 10 best sandwich shops in St. Louis
. So basically, all you bastards working downtown are incredibly lucky.
