After 21 years, Jimmy's on the Park is calling it quits.
The restaurant's owner, Jimmy Kristo, confirmed the news to Riverfront Times
, saying he'd announced it to staff yesterday and posted a statement on both the door and the restaurant's website thanking customers for their business.
"I'm keeping it short and sweet," he said. "I don't want to elaborate any more than that. It's tough enough already."
Located across the street from Concordia Seminary in a particularly leafy part of Clayton's DeMun neighborhood, Jimmy's was known for its jazz brunch and sidewalk dining.
The statement reads,
I am sad to announce that after 21 years Jimmy's On The Park Café Bistro Bar has closed effective January 4, 2016. To all our valued clients and friends I thank you for your support over the past twenty-one years. To the hundreds of employees that I have had the privilege working along side I thank you for your hard work and dedication and I wish you the best.
After his statement, Kristo provided info about how to redeem unused gift certificates. See the restaurant's website for more details
This is one of several closures to hit the Clayton/University City area in the last week or two. The Saint Louis Bread Co. on the Delmar Loop called it quits lasts week
, as did the Smoothie King just down the street from it
. Seoul Q is also closing
, but that's to make room for an expansion of its sister restaurant. Seoul Taco.
The news was first reported by St. Louis Magazine earlier today
