Brunch is a great excuse to sleep in, and Mangia Italiano knows it. The popular nightlife destination, named best 3 a.m. bar in Riverfront Times' best of St. Louis in 2014, stays up late and starts its Sunday brunch correspondingly at 11 a.m. The kitchen cooks up the special weekly menu well into the afternoon for late risers, offering plenty of brunch plates and boozy beverages to weekend warriors.
Our Sunday feast came with a pleasant surprise in the form of complimentary breakfast-themed bread service. Warm blueberry as well as lemon-poppyseed mini muffins arrived at the table shortly after orders were placed. Accompanied by a strawberry clotted cream, the airy, lightly sweetened pastries sated our hunger pangs without ruining our appetites.
From the menu, choose from a variety of sweet and savory options including classics such as biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, several variations of eggs Benedict, steak and eggs, pancakes, waffles and french toast. Additional options include a roasted-duck salad topped with poached eggs, a chicken-and-waffle sandwich, a breakfast pizza, salmon or sausage hash and build-your-own frittatas.
In addition to its full bar, Mangia offers mimosas, bloody marys made with in-house mix, and raspberry bellinis. For a real eye opener, check out the bloody mary bar, complete with more than sixty-five ingredients ranging from spices and sauces to pickles and meats. Like the rest of Mangia's brunch options, the spread is bountiful and generously portioned -- feel free to hit the snooze button a couple more times though because it's all available all the way until 3 p.m.
