Chef Shuffle: Brian Hardesty Leaves Element, Bixby's Hires Corey Ellsworth

Executive chef Brian Hardesty has left Element (1419 Carroll Street; 314-241-1674). The critically acclaimed Lafayette Square restaurant opened in September 2013 with not one, but four chefs in the kitchen. Hardesty led the team to create a feeling of collaboration, not competition. He also co-owns Guerrilla Street Food.

Hardesty told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the split was "amicable." Chef Brian Coltrain, who competed in this year's Iron Fork event, has stepped up as executive chef.

The Missouri History Museum's excellent restaurant Bixby's (5700 Lindell Boulevard; 314-361-7313) also has a new leader in the kitchen. Corey Ellsworth has been hired as the new executive chef; he previously led the kitchen at Chandler Hill Vineyards (596 Defiance Road, Defiance; 636-798-2675). Additionally, there's a new Louisiana Purchase-inspired menu at Bixby's that goes with the museum's current exhibition, though we're not quite sure what that means. Beaver pelts?
