Turkey is the centerpiece of Thanksgiving dinner, but it just wouldn't be a holiday without some pie. The good news is, if you're not quite a master baker, there are plenty of St. Louis pastry chefs offering up holiday pies for preorder.
Pint Size Bakery & Coffee (3825 Watson Road; 314-645-7142)
Pint Size has been one of our favorite bakeries since it opened in 2012 -- we named it Best Bakery that year and Best Cupcakes this year -- and Thanksgiving is no exception. Owner Christy Augustin has a bevy of treats for your holiday bash. Nine-inch pies, which serve ten people, are $25; choose from local pumpkin with candied pepitas; local sweet potato with toasted meringue; Missouri pecan with vanilla bean and Steen's cane syrup; walnut chocolate bourbon; or chocolate cream pie with a cookie crumb crust. Nine-inch tarts, which serve twelve, are also $25 -- there's pear, walnut and cranberry frangipane. If cakes are more your style, Pint Size has a pumpkin roll with cream-cheese filling and brown-butter glaze; a German chocolate roll with coconut-pecan filling and ganache glaze; and an oatmeal-stout torte with Civil Life Milk Stout, almonds, oats and dulce de leche. La Patisserie Chouquette (1626 Tower Grove Avenue; 314-932-7935)
You didn't think Simone Faure was taking the holidays off, did you? La Patisserie Chouquette is pulling out all the stops for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and everything in between. Preorder marble pumpkin-ginger pie; a pear and cranberry galette; a mini macaron tower; Dutch apple pie; bourbon praline pecan pie with spiked creme; and lots more. Call 314-932-7935 to order, or you may just want to do it in person and pick up some treats for yourself.
Pie Oh My (2719 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-704-4416)
Pie Oh My (obviously) specializes in pies, so it's offering plenty of varieties. Choose from among apple; caramel apple pecan; apple green chile pecan; chocolate bourbon pecan; chocolate cream; coconut cream; coconut chocolate walnut; pear apple cranberry; pecan; pumpkin; pumpkin walnut crumble; oatmeal chocolate ganache; or sweet potato. You can order by calling 314-704-4416 or online here. Pies start at $3 for mini pies and run up to $26.50 for full-size premium ones.
Sugarfire Pie (9200 Olive Street, Suite 108; 314-736-6300)
Sugarfire Smokehouse is a barbecue joint, but its pies were pretty famous too. So it's no surprise that Mike Johnson and Carolyn Downs opened an adjacent bakery. You can preorder key lime; Mississippi mud; apple crumb; pumpkin gooey butter; Sugarfire; and pecan. Whole pies are $28 each; call 314-736-6300. Orders are due by November 21, and pickup is from 8 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day.
Amy's Corner Bakeshop (4476 Chouteau Avenue; 314-371-2253)
Amy's is offering to-go turkeys, too, but we know you really want to hear about the pies. There's pumpkin, praline pecan, apple, cherry and chocolate cream -- fruit pies are $19 and the others are $21. You can also get pumpkin, cranberry and pecan pie cheesecakes for $30 and sour cream crumb cake, chocolate cake or pumpkin cake with cream cheese for $28. Get your orders in by Sunday night, but sometimes there are last-minute desserts available. Call 314-371-2253 or stop by to order.
