WildSmoke (12316 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur; 314-548-2222) opened as a (somewhat) fast-casual barbecue restaurant in January, from the same people behind EdgeWild Urban Winery. Owners Andy and Dee Dee Kohn announced this week that they're adding sit-down dinner service, a full bar and happy-hour specials.
Andy Kohn originally told us upon opening that he felt people wanted good service without having to spend the time or money to sit down and dine. Lunch will continue to be walk-in, but dinner service starts at 4 p.m. with some new items like an Angus burger and pork steak.
The addition of a full bar came from patron feedback. "The customer requests for a full bar -- something easy, intimate, authentic and low-key, a neighborhood spot to enjoy a drink and fresh bar food after work -- matched our own interests, so we decided to move forward with the addition," the Kohns said in a statement.
The bar will have nine EdgeWild wines, six bottled beers and nine on draft, including Schlafly, 4 Hands and Urban Chestnut. Don't worry, you can still get the housemade root beer, too. The happy hour menu, which runs from 2 to 6 p.m., will feature WildSmoke's award-winning wings, pig candy, doorknob onion rings, smoke buffalo chicken dip, soft pretzels, sliders and more.
We reviewed WildSmoke back in April, and Kohn admitted it's a learning process. "We made 27 changes in the first week," he told us. "You can't please everyone, but I'm in the people-pleasing business, so I have to try."
