Jilly's Cupcake Bar has a new sibling: Jilly's Ice Cream Bar (8509 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-954-1334). The ice-cream shop opens today, May 30, with a grand opening celebration on Monday. Owner Jill Segal announced plans for the ice-cream bar back in September with the hopes of being open last winter.
Jilly's already sells four cupcake-inspired ice creams at the cupcake bar and at various Schnucks locations. The new location will offer nineteen flavors, including classics and a rotating lineup of chef-inspired varieties.
"My whimsical creation for the month utilizes Lucky Charms," Jilly's chef Casey Shiller tells us. "I've infused the cereal into the milk we use in our ice cream, with strawberry crunch wafer pearls and the freeze-dried marshmallows that are so synonymous with Lucky Charms."
The tables and bar were made from reclaimed wood by Jermaine Todd, a.k.a. Mwanzi CO. Shiller says it's the first time Todd has incorporated color into his designs. The interior follows the familiar Jilly's color scheme -- orange sherbet, raspberry and lime -- but it's a lot warmer.
Worn Vintage, a company out of St. Charles, created ice-cream-inspired works of art for the walls made from antique spoons, scoops, ice-cream bowls and milk crates. There's also a space for private events.
"It's got a little different vibe from Jilly's," Shiller says. "It's twenty steps from the ice-cream bar -- we like to say twenty steps from cake to cone."
Jilly's Ice Cream Bar is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Check out the full menu below.
