Spring is finally here folks. Get out and enjoy the weather, not to mention all that fresh produce coming in season. It's the first outdoor Tower Grove Farmers' Market, plus we're celebrating the end of Prohibition at Schlafly. Check out our food-related recommendations after the jump, and go outside!
Friday (Apr. 11)
The annual fundraising gala for the Bach Society of St. Louis will feature food from St. Louis caterer Butler's Pantry as well as, of course, music. The evening starts with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction. Dinner will be accompanied by music from the Bach Society 2013-2014 Young Artists. Saturday (Apr. 12)
The ninth season of the Tower Grove Farmer's Market kicks off today with produce, dairy, meat and more from Baetje Farms, Kakao Chocolate, Marcoot Jersey Creamery, Naked Bacon, Ozark Forest Mushrooms and lots more. From 8 a.m. to noon. Admission is free.
Lukas is showcasing Missouri beers in this free tasting. Stop by between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and sample beers from Schlafly, Boulevard, Urban Chestnut, 4 Hands, Perennial and more. Must be 21 to enter. Admission is free.
Celebrate Czech heritage with food, beer, pastries, music and games from Czechoslovakia. They'll also introduce the candidates for Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Repeal Fest highlights craft beer from a state that isn't available in Missouri or across the river -- this year it's Washington state. Schlafly will be hosting brewers and their beers from Bale Breaker Brewing Company, Elysian Brewing, Epic Ales and No-Li Brewhouse. Sample 15 Schlafly beers and 17 Washington brews in a commemorative tasting glass. Food is also available for purchase. Tickets are $25 available here.
Check out more than twenty breweries at the second annual Belleville Ale Fest. Food is available for purchase, but your ticket gets you sips from 4 Hands, Civil Life, Lagunitas, New Belgium, Schlafly, Shiner, Southern Tier and more. There will also be live music from the Jeremiah Johnson Band. From 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 for VIP, $25 for general admission and $10 for designated driver, available here.
Sunday (Apr. 13)
With a special menu prepared by executive chef Josh Galliano, help raise money for the Ark of Taste and food biodiversity. The three-course tasting menu starts with mulefoot hog bologna with funyuns, yellow mustard spaetzle, potato chips and sauce charcuterie. Next is Gulf shrimp with asparagus ragout, squid ink, black garlic aioli and pirlou, followed by Creole cream cheese panna cotta with persimmons butter and sorghum gastrique. This hands-on class is all about the condiment of the moment: Sriracha. Conservatory staff member Christie Maggie will teach you to make homemade Sriracha. Then use it to make spicy bloody marys, sweet and spicy Sriracha chicken wings with green onion ranch dip, red pork posole with Anaheim chile-lime tortillas, spicy Thai grilled steak on mango-jicama salad with serrano-lemongrass dressing, Creole fried Tabasco fish served with sweet potato home fries dusted with ancho chiles and cumin, fresh horseradish slaw, plus citrus sorbet.
