The Dark Room Brings A New Photo-Friendly Bar and Gallery to Grand Center

On March 14, the Dark Room (615 North Grand Boulevard; 314-531-3416) opened its doors in Grand Center, offering a new refined drinking destination in conjunction with the Kranzberg Arts Center's Ken Kranzberg and the International Photography Hall of Fame. The minimal space features artisinal wines, photography exhibits, decorative vintage film equipment and clean, contemporary design from the gallery to the bar.

The new bar offers a primo spot to sip and savor both the area and the art on display, with a wine list curated by Pinnacle Imports' Bill Kniep and small plates to snack on. Wine starts at $7 a glass or $25 a bottle. For finer selections, the Coravin wine preservation system is available, a needle that extracts wine from the bottle without removing the cork, preventing oxidation.

Currently, the wine list offers options including 2012 Damilano Arneis white wine from Italy, 2010 Tridente Mencia from Spain and Pierre Gerbais Extra Brut champagne from France. A smaller selection of bottled beers is also available.

Snacks include thyme gougeres and Bissinger's dark chocolate covered grapes, or diners can opt for flatbreads small plates including smoked salmon bruschetta with chevre and caviar. Boards for sharing include charcuterie as well as a housemade dips trio.

The current exhibit on display is New on the Scene, featuring eight St. Louis-based photographers who recently graduated from Webster University. The works are curated by Susan Stang of Webster University in conjunction with the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.

The Dark Room's current hours are Tuesday through Wednesday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Thursday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight. Happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. till close, featuring $5 wine and discounted bar snacks.
