If Pulp Fiction's Jules Winnfield thought his "Big Kahuna" burger was tasty, he would be downright out of his mind for the "Dam Burger" at the Dam (3173 Morganford Road; 314-771-3173).

Think of this juicy, oozing behemoth of a burger as the hedonistic cousin of a patty melt: two patties of local and humanely raised beef are sandwiched between slices of sourdough bread that double as sponges for butter. The burger is topped with melted Swiss and American cheeses, and slathered with so much "Dam sauce" that it drips out of the sides. The "Dam sauce" is glorious -- a tangy, creamy concoction reminiscent of Thousand Island dressing. It's a multi-napkin affair that goes great with some mayonnaise-dipped fries. Go big or go home.
