The Dark Room (615 North Grand Boulevard; 314-531-3416), the wine bar-cum-photography gallery, is now open in Grand Center. After a few days of soft openings, the restaurant is open to the public from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight, March 14. The debut exhibit from the International Photography Hall of Fame is called New On the Scene.
The menu is focused around desserts, cheese and charcuterie boards and small plates, like gruyere and asiago cheese puffs -- basically, the perfect foods to pair with wine. Although it's techincally a wine bar, the Dark Room also features about a dozen local craft beers and soft drinks.
The wine list was carefully curated by Pinnacle Imports connoisseur Bill Kniep, and will complement the exhibitions when possible. Current selections include a 2012 Au Bon Climat pinot noir from Santa Barbara and a 2012 Damilano Arneis, a floral white wine from Piemonte, Italy.
New On the Scene features eight recent graduates of Webster University who are photographers or photo journalists. It will run until April 24. There will also be a grand opening celebration plus a kick-off party for the exhibition on March 27.
