Soulard is famous for its French roots and Mardi Gras celebrations, yes, but there's room for a little Irish flavor, too. O'Fallon native Patrick Lowery is opening the Good Luck Bar & Grill at 2501 South Ninth Street in the next few months.
Lowery recently came back to St. Louis when he found the perfect spot for the Good Luck Bar & Grill. He left for college in New Jersey, where he lived for ten years, then moved to California and worked in Hollywood doing visual effects and computer animation. He's been talking about opening his own bar since at least high school.
"I'm 48, and I've been talking about it so long -- I'm not getting any younger!" he laughs. "I'm Irish, but it's not going to be an Irish sports bar. It's going to be a small, classic bar and grill." Good Luck's signature dish will be chili: regular, spicy, white-bean chicken and vegetarian.
The bar will have ten beers on tap, which are up for a vote right now. Future customers can take part in Good Luck's online poll to select what beers they want to see on draft. (Vote here.)
The building is almost finished being gutted, but electricity and plumbing haven't been installed yet. It will have some of the original exposed brick, and probably a lot of dark wood, Lowery says. There are also two patios, one of which he hopes to put a roof over.
