Blueprint Coffee Looks to Open Next Week in the Loop

We have been waiting all summer for Blueprint Coffee (6225 Delmar Boulevard) to open, and it looks like the day is (almost) upon us. Gut Check went to check things out, and partner Mike Marquard gave us the scoop on the new setup and when he hopes to be open.

Blueprint did its first in-house brew this weekend and is beginning to roast. The team, which includes Kaldi's Kevin Reddy and Andrew Timko, is finishing up construction this week. "We're running out of things we have to do," says Marquard. "We have a few little projects and the all-important health inspection to get through."

The roaster is a 1930s-style machine, and it can handle up to 50 pounds of coffee beans at once. A roast typically takes about twelve minutes, so they'll only need to do one or two a day, depending on demand.

Marquard says that Blueprint is starting with four coffees, but will rotate in new blends every month. Right now, there's Adulina from Ethiopia, Cesmach from Mexico, a decaf and "the prima donna from Kenya," Kagumoni. Under glass next to the register will be croissants from the Comet Coffee Microbakery (5708 Oakland Avenue; 314-645-7158) and breads with housemade spreads and butters. Blueprint also used local startup Farmplicity to get yogurts and cream cheeses from Heartland Creamery.

It's only a matter of days now, and Marquard says Blueprint will probably "just open" one day next week after construction, cleaning, inspections and setup is done. We'll keep you updated, and be there for one of its first brews!
