Doyle, who also penned Finally, A Locally Produced Guidebook to St. Louis By and For St. Louisans, Neighborhood by Neighborhood as well as children's book, To the Top! A Gateway Arch Story, aims to provide a quick and concise guide of the city she holds so dear with her new book.
When asked how she narrowed down the 100 items on her list, Doyle explains, "I started this process with an enormous Google doc... I looked for things that fell between iconic and things that people know about but still haven't done, like eating a slinger at Eat-Rite Diner. The items have a slight twist too. We have Ted Drewes on the list but there five other places people call the best on the list to try as well."
Some edible adventures outlined include scarfing down doughnuts at a curated list of local mom-and-pop doughnut shops, attending a local fish fry and exploring a variety of Missouri wine destinations. Other items include checking out Chuck Berry live at Blueberry Hill, exploring the newly renovated Central Library, and biking the riverfront trail.
"I find that I easily forget about the things that are so easy and obvious to go and experience and wanted everyone else to have an easy guide at their fingertips," says Doyle. "If you have done all 100 of these things, you'd have a pretty rounded view of St. Louis, and then you can start your own list!"
