Chubbies (6227 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-5000) is one of several new restaurants to open or to announce plans to open in the Delmar Loop this year. On its block alone you will find the new (and, by all accounts, red-hot) venture from brothers Adam and Jason Tilford, Mission Taco Joint (6235 Delmar Boulevard; 314-932-5430), and an under-construction coffeehouse, Blueprint Coffee (6225 Delmar Boulevard).

This week's review looks at how Chubbies, with its simple, appealing menu (somewhere between fast food and fast-casual food) of burgers, wings and frozen custard, is poised to profit handsomely from the massive Washington University residential-retail development under construction at the corner of Delmar Boulevard and Eastgate Avenue.
Check back here tomorrow morning to read my take on the food. In the meantime, one question raised by my review is the following: With all the restaurant growth in the area in recent months, how can there still not be a decent pizza-by-the-slice joint in the Loop? I don't mind driving to La Pizza (8137 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-1230), but that might not be a consideration for your average Loop pedestrian.
So, readers, if you could plop down a by-the-slice joint in the Loop -- or prompt an pizzeria that doesn't sell by the slice to do so -- who would it be? Let me know in the comments.
