The Scene: This corner tavern on Morganford feels like the pubs our grandfather would take us to when Gut Check was but a wee little thing. It's dimly lit, and the wood paneling matches nicely with the wood tables and low, wooden ceiling, which perfectly reflects the shade of wood on the floors...you get the idea. The patrons are a mostly older crowd, who, on a Monday night, were crammed together at the bar like sardines. One thing Three Monkeys has is a sense of community. The tables were mostly empty, in favor of bellying up and being social with other regulars. The bartender was so busy pouring shots for the regulars that Gut Check's little table in the corner felt sadly neglected. But it was OK, because we were thoroughly entertained by the conversations around us.

The draft selection was more than sufficient, with some higher-end craft choices making a surprise appearance. In fact, the liquor selection was also great and pretty affordable, too. The tavern is also a full restaurant with pizzas, burgers and something called "Jungle Love Nachos."

Why You'll Go Back: Because not many places have a Sunday brunch special with free mimosas. There's nothing wrong with day drinking -- especially when it's free, right?

The Verdict: There are a handful of great bars to dip into on this stretch of Morganford Road, each one offering something different. Three Monkeys is the regular's tavern, the place to be to make instant friends who just might include you on their next round of shots.
