Tidbits: Araka's Final Weekend; La Gra to Become Tamm Avenue Grill

  • Ian Froeb

If you've been waiting to say goodbye to Araka (131 Carondelet Plaza, Clayton; 314-725-6777), you're almost out of time. The Clayton restaurant will close after service this Saturday, March 9. Owner Brad Beracha announced the closure last month. If you are a restaurateur looking for new fixtures or other items, Beracha is selling pretty much everything inside the restaurant. In place of Araka the Des Moines, Iowa-based steakhouse 801 Chophouse will open its first area location.

- Evan Benn of the Post-Dispatch has the scoop that La Gra Italian Tapas (1227 Tamm Avenue; 314-645-3972) in Dogtown has a new owner who plans to convert the restaurant into the Tamm Avenue Grill.

Gut Check's attempts to reach the new owner at La Gra have so far been unsuccessful. Benn reports that La Gra, which opened in 2007 serving (as its full name makes clear) an Italian twist on the small-plates concept, will remain open through the conversion to Tamm Avenue Grill. More as we learn it.
