The Shack PubGrub opened for business this morning at 3818 Laclede Avenue in Midtown, the SLU-centric spot previously (briefly) occupied by Pierre Laclede's. (A tip o' the hat to George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine for the heads up on the opening.)
The Shack has quite the pedigree: Its owners also own the Tavern Kitchen & Bar (2961 Dougherty Ferry Road, Valley Park; 636-825-0600) and two locations of the Corner Pub & Grill (13645 Big Bend Boulevard, Valley Park; 636-225-1300) and (15824 Fountains Plaza Drive, Chesterfield; 636-230-3400).
The Shack's menu (link PDF) features much of the, well, pub grub that you'd expect at a restaurant smack-dab in the middle of a college campus: hand-cut french fries, plain or loaded with chili or steak or several other toppings; burgers (which, if they are even nearly as good as the specimens at the Tavern or the Corner, will be a smash hit) and sandwiches; tacos both appealing (pork belly with jalapeño-pineapple salsa) and appealingly ridiculous (chicken, buttermilk-ranch dressing and Cool Ranch Doritos).
The Shack is open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily. Call 314-533-7000 or visit its website for more info.
