At a black-tie gala in New York City this evening, the James Beard Foundation will announce the winners of its annual awards for restaurants and chefs. You can watch the ceremony on the James Beard Foundation's website or track each announced winner via Twitter.
For the third time in the past four years, Gerard Craft of Niche (1831 Sidney Street; 314-773-7755) is one of the five finalists in the "Best Chef: Midwest" category.
Craft's fellow finalists are Justin Aprahamian of Sanford in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Colby Garrelts of Bluestem in Kansas City, Missouri; Tory Miller of L'Etoile in Madison, Wisconsin; and Lenny Russo of Heartland in St. Paul, Minnesota.
We'll have the results of the "Best Chef: Midwest" voting here as soon as we learn it.
This past Friday, May 4, the James Beard Foundation announced the winners of its book, journalism and multimedia awards. Notable winners include Alan Richman of GQ for restaurant criticism; Nathan Myhrvold's epic Modernist Cuisine for "Cookbook of the Year"; and Gabrielle Hamilton in "Writing and Literature" for her memoir Blood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef.
