Once again, Food & Wine wants you, person who likes food and restaurants and voting for things online, to choose "The People's Best New Chef." A total of 100 chefs nationwide have been nominated for the honor, which coincides with the magazine's annual (undemocratic) selection of the ten "Best New Chefs."
The 100 nominees are divided by region into ten groups of ten. Among the contestants in the Midwest region are two St. Louis chefs: Josh Galliano of Monarch (7401 Manchester Road, Maplewood; 314-644-3995) and Cassy Vires of Home Wine Kitchen (7322 Manchester, Maplewood; 314-802-7676).
It's the Maplewood Mafia! Or, um, something. At any rate, this is the second year in a row that Galliano has been nominated; in 2011, he was joined by Anthony Devoti of Five Bistro and Kevin Willmann of Farmhaus, who the magazine tabbed as one of its "Best New Chefs."
The chef with the most votes across all ten regions will be named "The People's Best New Chef." Vote this week on the Food & Wine website. Voting ends on Sunday, March 11 -- which, in a cruel twist of fate, is also the day that Monarch closes.
