Want to score last-minute reservations at a popular restaurant on a Friday evening? Usually, barring someone else's last-minute change of plans, you're out of luck.
Tonight, unsurprisingly, that might not be the case.
The Cardinals' dramatic victory last night ensured one more night of baseball, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. -- right in a restaurant's sweet spot.
"Only one thing can kill us," says Chris Nashan
of Sidney Street Café
(2000 Sidney Street; 314-771-5777), "and it's the Cardinals."
Nashan confirms that the acclaimed Benton Park restaurant has plenty of openings tonight.
Through Open Table, Gut Check searched for a table for two at several St. Louis favorites in the seven o'clock hour, with success: Harvest
, Brasserie by Niche
and Vin de Set
all had multiple openings.
We also have reliable (though unconfirmed) word that a spot at Farmhaus
can be had. Eleven Eleven Mississippi
didn't have any openings at 7 or 7:30, but did have tables at 8 and 8:30. Of our (admittedly unscientific) survey, only Annie Gunn's
struck out, with no openings after 5:30 and before 9.
So if you are that rare St. Louisan who doesn't care for baseball, or if you don't mind missing the first few innings, you're likely to land a prime reservation tonight.
Remember, though, win or lose, the Series ends tonight.
"We're booked tomorrow," advises Nashan.
