#55: The Sun-Dried Tomato Pizza at Katie's Pizzeria

Katie's Pizzeria (6611 Clayton Road; Clayton; 314-727-8585) is a small establishment serving up delicious, albeit unique, pizza. With ingredients ranging from smoked salmon to speck, Katie's pizzas aren't for the culinary faint of heart. Each pizza is uniquely crafted and made to order, and with more than seventeen choices (not to mention seasonal pizza specials), you'll find it hard to narrow your selection to just one pie.

Gut Check has sampled quite a few of Katie's pizzas, but our favorite is the sun-dried tomato. Fresh pesto replaces traditional marinara sauce, and a combination of tangy goat cheese and mozzarella sits atop the pie. Crispy strands of roasted pulled chicken are scattered across the surface, and a handful of sweet sun-dried tomatoes balance the pie's more savory ingredients. The crust isn't too thick or thin, and it's brushed lightly with olive oil and garlic.

Katie's pizzas are like miniature works of art, each with its own personality.The sun-dried tomato is a masterpiece in its own right and seems too pretty to eat. But after one slice, you won't have any trouble devouring the rest of the pie.
