Soulard Oktoberfest @ Lyon Park This annual event features plenty of chow and booze -- approximately 2,000 kegs of it. Admission is $5 each day, but dress in lederhosen or dirndl and get in free! Friday, Oct. 7 from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and Sunday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
28th Annual Chili Festival @ Downtown Belleville, IL Vote from 50 chili recipes in a "restaurateur/caterer" division and a "non food service business/organization" division with dollar bills. Sample several kinds and see which one wins at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The event features four blocks of food vendors, live music and more. Free admission. Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The Maplewood Eats and Arts Walk @ Downtown Maplewood Maplewood food purveyors including Acero, Home Wine Kitchen and Maya Café celebrate the autumn harvest with food and drink specials offered from storefronts and seating will also be available indoors. Fiddlers from the Folk School of St. Louis provide entertainment throughout the neighborhood. Free admission. 6 to 9 p.m.
Saturday (Oct. 8):
1st Annual St. Louis River Rub @ 7th St. & Cerre in Downtown St. Louis Plenty of food and beverage is available for purchase. Watch as contestants compete in the categories of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. Free admission. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
9th Annual Augusta Bottoms Beer Fest @ Katy Trail head in Augusta, MO Live music and beer tasting from more than 23 brewers and wine sales dominate the day's festivities. $27 admission at the door. Noon to 5 p.m.
Dueling Desserts - Art in the Park Festival @ Lindendale Park in Highland, IL Professional chefs including Steffani Pollack of The Cupcake Project, Kerry Soraci of I Scream Cakes and more present artful desserts made entirely of edible ingredients, while attendees will vote for the best dessert by dropping spare change in jars. Proceeds will be donated to a local food pantry. Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9 from noon to 2 p.m.
Sunday (Oct. 9):
Duval-LeRoy Champagne Tasting Dinner @ Harvest Taste champagne with expertly paired food including fried quail and pan-roasted squab. $65 per person. Call 314-645-3522 for reservations. Reception at 6:30 p.m. Dinner at 7 p.m.
The Queen's Cuisine Presents Sunday Afternoon Tea @ The Map Room This classic English tea will include three courses complete with two pots of tea. Champagne, Pimm's and other cocktails are also available. This month's tea is a special fundraiser for Tower Grove Market. Reserve a table by calling 618-205-6188. $30. 1 to 4 p.m.
Sunday Funday @ Main Street in St. Charles This first annual event features live music, a hot dog eating contest, a best burger contest, bartender competition, drink specials and more. Participating restaurants include Lloyd & Harry's Bar and Grill, Quintessential Dining and Nightlife, Undertow Bar & Grill and more. Free admission. 1 to 6 p.m.
Alton Brown book signing and discussion @ Ethical Society of St. Louis Food Network star and molecular gastronomy guru Alton Brown discusses his new book Good Eats 3. The event is free and open to the public, but a copy of Good Eats 3 must be purchased from Left Bank Books for entry into the book signing line. 4 p.m.
