Stomp Grapes for Charity this Weekend at Stone Hill Winery

When Lucy decided to go to work for a local vineyard in the famous grape-stomping I Love Lucy episode, she got into a bit of a tiff with a fellow stomper. But there will be only good-natured grape crushing in Hermann this Saturday when participants gather for Stone Hill Winery's annual Great Stone Hill Grape Stomp.

Raising money for River Bluff Industries, Inc., a nonprofit workshop for the mentally and physically disabled in Hermann, grape stompers will compete in a challenge to see who can generate the most juice. Competitors pay $5, spectators pay $3 and the fee includes a winery tour. The Boney Goat Band will play during the competition, and participants are encouraged to dress in costume.

Registration begins at 11 a.m., and cash prizes will be awarded to those who out-stomp their competitors in each age category. Last year, the winery raised around $4,100.

In addition to the stomping competition, Stone Hill Winery is offering buy one, get one deals on all wines at the Hermann, Branson and New Florence winery locations on Saturday and Sunday.
