The Fatted Calf (12 South Bemiston Avenue, Clayton; 314-726-1141) will not close at the end of this month, as the burger-centric restaurant announced three weeks ago. St. Louis Magazine revealed on Friday that the Clayton institution would remain open "one way or another."

Today, Kathleen Portman, who with her husband, Jason, has owned the restaurant for the last three years, tells Gut Check, "We've committed to another three-year lease."

In our previous report, Portman said the Fatted Calf needed to serve 200 people per day to remain viable; it had been serving about 100. Since news of its possible closure broke, she reports, the restaurant has been serving above 200 diners each day. In fact, Portman has had to hire two new employees to handle the additional business.

"It's been amazing," Portman says. "I can't even tell you, the outpouring of support."
