Las Brisas is now open inside Starrs (1135 South Big Bend Boulevard, 314-781-2345). The soft opening is today, and there are plans for a grand opening next week, although no date is set yet.
Bud Starr is sharing his liquor license with Sergio Zegar, Las Brisas' owner and executive chef, and Starr will handle the liquor and wine. But, Starr insists, this is the extent of his involvement -- in his words, he's "not actively involved. It's Sergio's restaurant."
Zegar's menu revolves around authentic Mexican fare, with some interesting twists and additions. The regular menu will feature fresh fish from Bob's as well as salads and burgers. Gut Check is looking forward to the margarita, which was one of Starr's contributions. Bud believes a margarita should be more than tequila poured into pre-made mix. Las Brisas' 'ritas will bypass the mix -- opting instead for fresh juices.
Las Brisas is open 5 - 10 p.m. daily, but these hours are subject to change and will likely expand to lunch next week. 314-781-4734 for more information.
