Much to Gut Check's everlasting sorrow, we weren't able to get an actual prairie chicken to cook up to accompany this week's RFT feature story, "Little Cocks on the Prairie." (Some people cannot look at an animal without wondering what it would taste like. It's a serious affliction.) Prairie chicken hunting -- and eating -- season isn't till fall.

Gut Check is in the habit of using alcohol to ease our sorrows. And, fortunately, through the magic of the Internet, we discovered a cocktail called the Prairie Chicken, comprising gin, a raw egg, salt and pepper. Equally fortunate, we had gin at the ready. In keeping with the mood, the egg was procured from the Maplewood Farmers' Market...
