It was a hot weekend for wings in Belleville, Illinois, and not in a good way.
On Friday morning a kitchen fire erupted at Geo's Wings and More, RFT's 2009 choice for "Best Wings". Co-owner Karen Smith says that as of this morning they're still investigating the exact cause, but it seems to have been a grease fire caused by a burner that was accidentally left on.
No one was injured in the fire and the damage was limited to the kitchen. Smith estimates that repairs will take three to four weeks to complete.
Even with the kitchen out of commission, the bar was open on Saturday night. To look at the parking lot, it didn't look like anything was amiss.
"We have fantastic friends and customers who helped clean up the dining room. Our biker friends and our families all came out to help," Smith reports.
She says the bar will have to close for some period during the reconstruction, but they'll remain open for drinks as repairs allow.
