This American Life Reveals Coca-Cola Recipe

This weekend's edition of This American Life focused on the closely held secret recipe of Coca-Cola. (At least, as I understand it, this was the episode that aired this past weekend. Please correct me if I'm wrong! I didn't hear it myself.) You can download a podcast of that episode at the This American Life website.

Actually, This American Life publishes two versions of the confidential Coca-Cola concoction: one taken from a photograph in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article from 1979 and another, republished from a 1992 book about the cola industry, that purports to be the original recipe written in the notebook of the 19th-century chemist who created Coca-Cola.

The recipe is essentially split into two parts. One features water, sugar, caramel, vanilla and lime juice. The other, called "7x Flavor," is a combination of alcohol, orange oil, lemon oil, nutmeg oil, coriander oil, neroli oil and cinnamon oil.

I hope there is a sequel in which we learn the recipe of New Coke.
