Manage to get through being housebound without attempting to murder anyone with an axe? You deserve a road trip and pie!
This Saturday, pie takes over downtown Mascoutah, Illinois, about 40 minutes east of downtown St. Louis. The town's hosting its annual Sweetie Pie Day, where nineteen business make their best pies, give away samples and let the public choose their favorites.
"Come in to town and grab a ballot at our local visitors center [200 East Main Suite 101]. That tells you the names and places that are serving pie. Go from place to place and try your fill of pie. After you are full to the brim, you vote for your favorite pie. It is a completely free event, said Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce vice president Erin Fitzler Daley.
One judge will win $100 "Mascoutah Bucks" to spend at participating businesses.
As Aimee Levitt wrote last fall, Illinois is a magical land of delicious pies.
