Happy Hour Cheap Eats!

Earlier this week we unveiled our list of the best happy hours in St. Louis. We also told you about where to experience happy hour if you're a foodie intent on trying new cuisines or tasting the top restaurants in town. But where do you go if merely want an inexpensive snack with your booze?

Go figure: We've got an answer for that too! Here are our top seven choices for cheap happy-hour eats.

7. Triumph Grill 3419 Olive Street; 314-446-1801
The Triumph Grill
  • The Triumph Grill

This midtown bar is adjacent to the Moto Museum and has a motorcyle theme to match. But the deals won't appeal solely to bikers: Appetizers are $3 off on weekdays from 2 to 6 p.m. That means it's $4 for a giant stack of onion rings or just $3 for a serving of soft pretzels with Dijon/Guinness dipping sauce. That oughta get your motor running!

6. Tom's Bar & Grill 20 South Euclid Avenue; 314-367-4900
Half-price appetizers from 4 to 7 p.m. makes this inexpensive Chicago-themed sports bar a great place to dine on the cheap. The wings aren't bad here (and it's just $4 for a frickin' pound at happy hour), but we recommend the blue cheese chips -- house-made potato crisps slathered in blue cheese sauce, scallions and tomatoes, for just $3.50 during happy hour. It's a meal in itself, and a comforting one at that.

5. Nadine's Gin Joint 1931 South 12th Street; 314-436-3045
Nadine's doesn't really have all that much variety when it comes to gin (just four standard brands at our last check). But the Joint does have food -- and on weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m., most of it is priced at $3 or less. Pretty hard to beat that.

4. Three Monkeys 3153 Morganford Road; 314-772-9800
Three Monkeys
  • Three Monkeys

This "eating and drinking establishment" near Tower Grove Park offers select appetizers at half price on weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m.

3. Weber's Front Row 8169 Big Bend Boulevard, Webster Groves; 314-961-4500
Weber's Front Row
  • Weber's Front Row

In addition to the excellently priced $2 margaritas, many of the appetizers at this neighborhood sports bar along the Old Orchard stretch of Big Bend are just $3 during happy hour. And given that happy hour at Weber's runs from 3 to 6 p.m., with a late-night happy hour that begins again at 10 p.m., you have plenty of chances to chow down.

2. Remy's Kitchen and Wine Bar 222 South Bemiston Avenue, Clayton; 314-726-5757
This Clayton bar is not exactly Claytonesque in style or in price, meaning you can loosen your tie while drinking -- and you won't pay an arm and a leg for food. And did we mention the food is actually quite good? On weekdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., as well as during late-night happy hour from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, Remy's offers a variety of Mediterranean-themed small plates for just $4.95. The ones we sampled were a far cry from your usual fried-to-a-crisp bar bites. (Think falafel, with cucumber, tomato, hummus, feta and harissa for dipping -- yum!)

1. St. Louis Sports Zone 113 Kenrick Plaza, Shrewsbury; 314-961-3366
St. Louis Sports Zone
  • St. Louis Sports Zone

This Shrewsbury sports bar covers a staggering 7,700 square feet -- and has a food menu to match. There are two dozen items on the happy-hour menu alone (served from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays), all of them less than $10 and many of them under $5. Did you know they have three kinds of toasted ravioli here? No? Well, what did you expect of a bar that's bigger than the average McMansion?
