There couldn't be a more fitting name for this beloved little gem of a restaurant in University City. For this East Coast expat, the pie at La Pizza is the dictionary definition of great pizza.
The crust is thin but with a crisp bottom and strong bones: It has a pleasant chew and, crucially, doesn't bend under the weight of sauce, cheese and toppings. (Though, for the true NYC experience, you can fold it in half for easier eating while walking.)
The sauce is excellent, with a true tomato bite, and the whole-milk mozzarella melts to the perfect consistency. Whichever toppings you select, you, too, might soon make the distinction. There are pizzas, and there is the
