Is Baking Things Inside of Other Things the Latest Food Meme?

So yesterday a colleague passed along a link to the website Bake It in a Cake, which features recipes and cross-section photographs of things baked inside of a cakes. What kind of things? Mostly other sweet treats, like candy bars, Nutella wafers, a miniature strawberry shortcake -- though there is a horrific-looking savory cake with broccoli baked inside of it. (See screenshot above.)

Then, today, I see an article on Gawker about a giant cake with an entire regular-sized pie baked inside of it.

Is this a new food meme sweeping the Internet? Or simply a coincidence? Readers, have you ever baked anything unusual -- a pie, a vegetable, a glassine bag of cocaine -- inside of a cake?
