It's Christmas morning at Gut Check International Headquarters, and we're the bleary-eyed moms and dads, sprawled among the tatters of wrapping paper and emptied packages, hoping the coffee kicks in before the hangover gets much worse.
We began work on this year's issue in July -- though, in truth, our work on the Best of St. Louis issue has neither beginning nor end. Every restaurant, every meal, every shopping trip, however mundane, is an opportunity to discover something that no one in St. Louis does any better right now.
And while we might grumble about the hours we spend putting this issue together -- by far, the hardest we work on anything all year -- knowing that over the next few days, dozens of deserving St. Louisans will open up the paper or scroll through the awards online to see their work honored makes it all worthwhile.
So pick up a copy of the issue on the newsstands or visit the online listing of restaurant, food and drink winners
. It's the present that you didn't ask for, but that you won't be able to live without.
As for us? We're already pondering the Best of St. Louis 2011. Well, right after we finish another cup of coffee, that is.
