Farm Stands Gain on Farmers' Markets

What's the next farmers market? Farm stands. The Portland (Oregon) Tribune compares prices at farmers markets, farm stands, and supermarkets with the stands coming out way on top. Why is that?

What's the next food truck? Food buses. The Wall Street Journal explores San Francisco's new food bus scene. Two "bustaurants" serve the Bay Area. One, a 50-year-old converted Greyhound, seats 16 diners while it takes to the roads. The other, a school bus, travels in food truck circles.

What's the next diet fad? Understanding that healthy foods have calories. Time reports on a new study that found a surprising number of people thought a plate with a burger, fries, and steamed broccoli had fewer calories than a plate with the same burger and fries with no broccoli.

What's the next ridiculous shopping idea? Setting up a 5000-square-foot grocery store for three days at a Nascar track. According to the Dover (Delaware) Post, that's exactly what Maryland-based Giant Food will be doing this weekend at Dover International Speedway. The pop-up store will be on the infield among the RVs and will sell groceries, health and beauty items, beverages, and prepared deli items.
