The brisket sandwich at Winslow's Home is a triumph of a patience: Patience for the slow cooking of the meat, which renders the tricky cut tender and flavorful. Patience to try again when you arrive after the sandwich has sold out. Patience, when you are able to order it, to wait as the kitchen makes its way through the lunch rush at this wildly popular restaurant and general store.
The wait is worth it: The brisket is piled high on rye bread that actually tastes like rye, the meat accented by melted brie and horseradish mayo. The only time when patience fails? Savoring it. Several bites and then, suddenly, I have to be patient again, waiting for my next visit.
