A Romanian flag now flies outside south city Mexican restaurant Tower Tacos (3147 Cherokee Street; 314-256-1141). New owner Frank Buda is an American who was born in Romania. Buda, who boasts twenty years experience in the food-service industry, tells me that he has big plans to expand the restaurant's geographical reach.

"My plan for the future is to make an international cuisine with a Mexican theme," he says. "Which, let's put it this way, will probably be a four-page menu with a Mexican base."

Aside from Mexican fare and casual American dishes like Cobb salad, Buda promises several Central and Eastern European favorites, like cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers and skinless sausage.

For now, the changes aren't too dramatic. "We've added a few new items to the menu. We're running a few specials. We've changed the furniture."

There is also a new awning outside the restaurant and, of course, that Romanian flag.
