Word this morning that Lafayette Square diner Soda Fountain Square (1801 Park Avenue; website) will now open only for special events. Bethany Budde, owner of both Soda Fountain Square and SqWires, made the announcement on a Lafayette Square listserv, explaining that, after four years, she and her staff could no longer meet the needs of both restaurants.

Soda Fountain Square is available for parties for (quoting the post) "'children of all ages.'" Call 314-865-3522 for more information.

Bonus diner news, after the jump...

Meanwhile, on Off the Menu, Joe Bonwich of the Post-Dispatch reports that the 12th Street Diner is now -- finally -- open at 1137 Washington Avenue. Owner Eyad Tammas also owns Copia Urban Winery, which remains shuttered after an arson fire at the very end of 2007. Check out Joe's post for bonus whispers about City Diner.
