SweetArt, a new bakery/art gallery, just opened a few weeks ago at 2203 South 39th Street in the Shaw neighborhood. It's a collaboration of the husband-and-wife team of Cbabi and Reine Bayoc: She provides the sweet, he provides the art.

On January 3, a week after SweetArt opened, it had its first sell-out day. Writes Reine on the bakery's blog:
Yeah, baby...we sold out!...of everything...not just cupcakes...EVERYTHING!! Cookies, quiche, rice krispie treats, coffee cake, everything! This is a small miracle, especially given just a few days ago before it was soooooo SLOW that my wonderful daughter said, "Are we open?" Yup, that's what she said. So she made a sign that said, "Come in! Come! We're open...so come in!" The slow day thankfully covered payroll, and maybe a couple pounds of butter and that's about it. So selling out yesterday was soooo sweet, and I'm so thankful to all who came and bought one thing...and those who bought two things...and those who bought coffee and worked on their computers...
SweetArt is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Wed.-Sat. It will also be open next Tuesday evening at 8 for a Sweet Succession inaugural party. Visit the website for more information, plus bios of Cbabi and Reine and pictures of Cbabi's art and Reine's cookies and cupcakes. Warning: excessive drooling may ensue.
