Three for Three: 9.12-9.14

Gut Check recommends three ways you won't go hungry this weekend.

1. Mexican Independence Day Celebration: Enjoy music and authentic Mexican food at the intersection of Cherokee and California Streets. (10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fri.-Sun.)

2. Great Green Pesto Feast: A dinner featuring all sorts of versions of pesto, hosted by the Gateway Green Alliance at Grace United Methodist Church at the corner of Skinker Boulevard and Waterman Avenue. (6-8 p.m. Sat.)

3. Okawville Wheat Festival: Josh Galliano -- formerly of An American Place, now of Monarch -- posted about this on the STL Bites forum. Here's what he had to say:

All of your favorites will be here: brat dinners, poppyseed coleslaw, meat on a stick, quilt raffles, gun raffles, bingo for quilts, kettle corn, and my personal favorite, beer poker. You have oversized cards (helps once you're drunk) and you try to beat the other eight competitors; there is no discard or drawing of new cards, just what's dealt to you. But for the ante of $1, you can win a 32 ounce AB product or a six pack of Ski if you're not up for the alcohol.

That's it for this week. Next week: A road trip to...Effingham, Illinois?

Have a great weekend. Eat something good.
