One of St. Louis' most-loved holiday light displays is in the running to be named the best in the country — and your vote can help it get there.
The Saint Louis Zoo Wild Lights, an spectacle of 500,000 lights that has taken over the zoo every year since 1999, has been named one of the top 20 zoo light displays across the country by USA Today 10best. St. Louis is in good company with zoos from Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and Houston — and as of press time, it sits in second place.
"Visitors experience a winter fairyland in St. Louis at the annual U.S. Bank Wild Lights festival," the USA Today 10best post
says. "The St. Louis Zoo gets decked in half a million glimmering lights in a variety of displays, including a gingerbread village, Fantasy Butterfly Garden, Swan Lake and Starry Safari." The description goes on to note additional attractions such as fireside stories and ice carving demonstrations, as well as opportunities to visit some of the zoo's residents, such as Kali the polar bear.
Readers are welcome to vote once per day for their favorite zoo lights display until Monday, December 5 at 11 a.m. central time. The top 10 ten winners will be announced on Friday, December 9.
