Fans of classic gore and sci-fi flicks, prepare for a real gem of the genre. Late Nite Grindhouse has a 35mm print of The Deadly Spawn (also known as Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn) lined up for midnight screenings at the Hi-Pointe Theatre this Friday and Saturday (June 1 and 2). If you enjoy prop xenomorphs, buckets of blood and the relentless slaughter of clueless '80s teenagers, this 1983 cheapie is exactly what you crave.
The plot is familiar and functional. A group of campers watch a falling star, then fall prey to the crawling alien that the star contained. The alien gets as far as a lonely house before needing to feed again -- it's eating for 200, you know -- and then chews its way through house and inhabitants before popping out some nasty offspring. The Deadly Spawn is cheap and chewy, in the best sci-fi monster tradition.
Late Nite Grindhouse films cost just $6, and are always preceded by a half-hour of classic grind trailers and other fun stuff starting at 11:30 p.m., so get there early. More info is available here, and the trailer is included below to whet your appetite.
