Anonymous Donation Keeps 'River Styx' Afloat

River Styx, the venerable St. Louis literary magazine, just received a $10,000 grant from an anonymous donor to supplement other grants from the Regional Arts Commission and Missouri Arts Council.

The magazine has been on the brink of financial collapse ever since its inception, but this year the extra funding is especially welcome.

"It seemed like gravy at the time, but the economy and granting agencies looked in much better shape back when they first proposed it," says editor (and the RFT's choice for Best Local Poet of 2008) Richard Newman. "We may need the extra cash for survival now."
