Women Past and Present

Women are a powerful force, but don't just take our word for it: Head over to the Ground Floor in Belleville, Illinois (215 East Main Street; 618-236-3767), for the fifth annual Herstory Weekend. Throughout this two-day event, which celebrates National Women's History Month (that's March if you didn't get the memo), women rock out, relax, get pampered and give back. Ladies from Kim Massie to Celia provide the soundtrack, belly dancers and burlesquers perform as well, massages are given, crafts are sold, tarot cards are read, and hair is cut (hair donations go toward making wigs for cancer survivors). Plus, proceeds benefit a scholarship program for single parents at Southwestern Illinois College, and there's a used-clothing exchange! Herstory runs from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday (March 27 and 28), and a weekend pass costs $15. Visit www.myspace.com/herstoryweekend to check out all of the details.
