Witness the Revival

Though the mission of Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New York-based company, is to honor and revitalize 5,000 years of Chinese culture -- no small feat -- you’re likely to first notice the performers’ vibrantly colored, intricately designed costumes. The talents of these dancers become quickly apparent, though, as they weave together various pieces from Chinese stories of spirituality, spanning eras and geography, from Manchurian times to Tibetan dance. These performances are complemented by the company’s own orchestra and soloists who do their part to make Shen Yun a seamless and gorgeous introduction to worlds long ago and far away, all at the ever-so-convenient Peabody Opera House (1400 Market Street). The spectacle takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 19. Tickets cost $50 to $120 and are available by calling 314-241-1888 or visiting www.peabodyoperahouse.com.
