Winter Provender

Unlike bats, squirrels, lemurs and other lucky mammals, humans can't hibernate -- but we can certainly try. Thankfully, there's a farmers' market for those of us who dare to wake up and exit our cozy beds. Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com) provides beer, food and provisions at its Winter Market, a post-season indoor extension of the Maplewood Farmers' Market. There will be greens, turnips, meat, cheese, baked goods and even fresh produce -- everything you need to fatten up and stay warm. The Winter Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17, and continues one Saturday a month through March. Admission is free, but good luck leaving without an armful of goodies and a bellyful of beer.
