What’s Your Rush?

Judging by a few quick calculations, you will eat roughly 76,650 meals in your lifetime, give or take. That ain’t a lot, really, so it’s best to make each one count. The folks from Slow Food St. Louis must be keenly aware of this sobering fact, as they dedicate their time to celebrating and preserving the finer vittles, the handcrafted beers, regional cuisine, true artisan foodstuffs. Join in the movement when the group holds its Art of Food fundraiser at Soulard’s Mad Art Gallery (2727 South 12th Street). From 7 to 11 p.m., peruse local artists’ food-themed works (like Geoff Story's Slow Night, pictured) and bid on these items as well as gift baskets from various boutiques and wineries; then, nibble on hors d’oeuvres crafted by nine genius chefs from restaurants like Niche, Annie Gunn’s and Balaban’s. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door (prices include one drink). Get the goods at www.slowfoodstl.org.
