Viva Sangria

Is there any other drink that provides one with a justifiable feeling of having had a full serving of fruit other than sangria? Gee, five glasses fulfills a whole day's dietary recommendation! But seriously, sangria is delicious and does at least offer a playful fanciness without a lot of stuffy pretension. Onesto Pizza and Trattoria's sangria is so popular that the restaurant had to dedicate a whole Facebook page to the beverage — meaning, of course, that these people are very well acquainted with a good sangria. Tonight, Onesto's prized winey-fruity Frankenstein is put to the test in the Seasonal Sangria Showdown. Bartenders from Quincy Street Bistro, Mathew's Kitchen, and West End Grill pour their latest concoctions to compete against the mixes of Onesto bartender Todd Brutcher. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, with the proceeds benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of St. Louis and Charlie's Angels, a local charity for cystic-fibrosis research. Tasting begins at 6 p.m. at Onesto (5401 Finkman Street). For more details, contact Onesto at 314-802-8883 or visit www.onestopizza.com.
