Top Secret

It's quickly become a New Year's Eve tradition: Every year since his arrival, maestro David Robertson plans a top-secret performance for the last night of the year. What will the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra play? No one outside of Powell Hall knows, and those in the know ain't talkin'. Previous years have seen a show that's split between straight performances (William Tell Overture, Alexander Borodin's Polovtsian Dances) and frothier works (Victor Herbert's Art Is Calling To Me, and PDQ Bach's 1712 Overture for Really Big Orchestra), along with surprise guest stars, physical comedy from the podium and other delights. This year's show -- whatever it may be -- begins at 7:30 p.m. at Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1700 or www.slso.org). Tickets are $25 to $120.
